Gary Toms lives in Independence, MO. He joined the Sons of the Union Veterans of the Civil War, Westport Camp #64, on 05 October 2011, signed by John Martin, Camp Commander.
Ancestry: David Harris Stiteler Private, Company C, 77th Pennsylvania Infantry regiment; Mustered on 22 February 1862 in Pennsylvania. Honorably Discharged on 13 April 1863 due to wounds.
Private Stiteler was born in what is now Blair County, Pennsylvania in 1829. He married Hadassah McSparran on 23 January 1851 and they had eight children. Private Stiteler was wounded in the Civil war and lost his arm at the battle of Stone River near Murffreeboro, Tennesse. Private Stiteler was captured and exchanged and returned to Hollidaysburg, pennsylvania and eventually moved his family to Southeast Kansas about 1868.
Private Stiteler is buried at Farlington cemetery in Farlington, crawford County, Kansas.
